 Q -
Who
owns Bluegrass Kennels?
A -
Bluegrass Kennels is a family owned and operated facility. Gary, Matt,
and Bry Hardin are the owners. The kennel was opened in 1980 and we have been the
sole owners since inception.
Q -
Does anyone live on the grounds?
A -
Gary and Donna Hardin live on the grounds.
Q - What are the accommodations like for
my pet?
A -
We have a 109 indoor kennels. All of our runs are a
standard 13ft. long and are 4 ft. to 8 ft. wide. All runs have a basement
finish concrete flooring with a half inch fall. Any supplied bedding is put
on top of 3 ft. X 2 ft. long platforms in each run. Our kennel is
heated by a 150,000 btu Bryant furnace and is air conditioned with 5 ton a/c
units.
Q - How many times does my dog get out
to use the restroom?
A - We
recognize that almost all of our boarders are house broken which means that almost all of
the dogs here will not use the restroom on the concrete. Our standard policy in the
kennel is that every dog is taken to our pea-graveled potty yard five times a day.
Your pet will be alone through this time and will have about five to
ten minutes to
use the yard. All messes are cleaned up before the next dog on the potty schedule is
taken out.
Q -
What type of bedding do we supply?
A -
We supply basic carpet squares for your pet or pets. You are welcome to
bring anything from home for bedding for your pet. A simple suggestion is to sleep
in a night shirt or blanket the dog will have in their run so they can have the smell from
home in it. This sometimes will make pets feel a little more comfortable while
staying with us.
Q -
Are the cats kept in
a separate area than the dogs?
A -
Our deluxe cattery is
separate from the dogs. At no time will the cats come into contact or see
the dogs.
Q -
What are the
accommodations like for the cats?
A - All
cats have a 4 ft wide x 4 ft long x 8 ft tall condo in our cattery. The
individual condos have different ledges to climb and sleep on. Classical
music is always played in the cattery. (Bach & Beethoven!) Just click
here to go directly to the cat condo and information page.
Q -
How many times a day do you feed the dogs and cats?
A -
We will accommodate your
pet as close to his or her feeding schedule as possible. We have an A.M.
(5:30-8:30) feeding, Noon (11:00-1:00) feeding, and a P.M. (5:30-7:00)
feeding. We also have a free feed schedule that allows your dog or cat to
have food 24 hours a day.
Q -
How do I prepare my pet's
food to bring in?
A - We
request that all clients prepack meals for each feeding in zip lock
baggies. We do this to cut down on the excess space used by bulky food
bags. This also ensures that your family members are not being underfed or
overfed.
Q -
Can I bring toys for my
pet?
A - You
can bring in just about anything for your pet to make sure they enjoy their stay
with us. Please make sure that all dog toys are appropriate size and
cannot be ingested.
Q -
Does my pet have access
to water 24 hours a day?
A - Your
pet has access to water 24 hours a day. We have different size bowls and
buckets depending on the dog's or cat's size. Our largest buckets are six
quarts. All water is changed several times daily to ensure your pet has
cool & fresh water at all times.
Q -
What vaccinations does my
dog or cat need to be current on?
A - (Dogs)
- Rabies, DHLPP or DA2PC, and Bordetella vaccine. All vaccines are
annual with exception of Rabies which can be a three year vaccination.
(Cats) - Rabies and FVRCP ( Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis Calicivirus
PanLeukopenia).
Q -
How
far in advance does your kennel get booked up?
A -
Our clients make
reservations sometimes 8, 10 or 12 months out. We are guaranteed to
be booked every major holiday and especially throughout the summer months.
Q -
Can I call while on my
trip to check up on my pet?
A - Absolutely!
